Who’s Playing at the 2018 Twin Cities Jazz Festival

A great aspect about Downtown St Paul living is the abundance of musical performances. Lowertown, surrounding Mears Park, is a welcoming, culturally rich community.

And the 20th annual Twin Cities Jazz Festival is about to begin. This 3-day music fest (June 21-23) takes over multiple stages in Mears Park, and spills over into local pubs and clubs. Expect plenty of opportunities to join audiences of every style and size.

Featured this year on the main stages are some phenomenal artists.

On Friday the 22nd at 6 pm, hear saxophonist Tia Fuller, whose high-profile work includes performing as the featured soloist with Beyoncé for President Obama at the White House.

Then, at 8:30 pm, come and hear the Emmet Cohen Trio and saxophonist Houston Person‘s smooth tenor sound.

On Saturday the 23rd at 6 pm, vocalist and classically trained flutist Nayo Jones will perform jazz standards in the tradition of Natalie Cole.

Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater, who takes the stage Saturday, June 23 at 8:30 pm, is a 3-time Grammy winner who hosts NPR’s Jazz Set. Dee Dee won a Tony as Glinda the Good Witch in The Wiz. Dee Dee’s recent album is named Memphis, Tennessee.

Aurora Nealand and Tom McDermott perform then too, at the TPT Street Space. Aurora’s background encompasses training in Paris and performing traditional New Orleans jazz in NOLA itself. Tom will add the piano to enrich that NOLA sound.

Check out the headliners’ free jazz clinics too.

As a special bonus, MetroTransit will offer attendees free bus rides and light rail trips during the festival weekend. Nice.
